What is the Assitive Technology Branch?
The Assistive Technology (AT) Branch helps Kentuckians with disabilities explore and implement tools and techniques to overcome barriers to competitive, integrated employment in the home, transportation, school, and workplace.
What is Assistive Technology?
Assistive technology is any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. (29 U.S.C. Sec 2202(2).
Who Can Use Assistive Technology?
Individuals with disabilities use assistive technology to help with challenges they face. The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation uses these tools to remove obstacles in education, jobs, daily living, mobility, and transportation.
Who Can Assist Me With Assistive Technology Services?
An AT Specialist is an expert in assistive technology. OVR has regional AT Specialists that can provide these services to individuals with disabilities. The AT Specialist's work in conjunction with individuals with disabilities and the vocational rehabilitation counselors to determine what assistive technology devices and services can best meet the individual's needs.
Driver Assistive Technology Program
The Driver Assistive Technology Program (DATP) provides driver evaluation, driver training, and vehicle modification to assist individuals with disabilities to obtain or retain a drivers license. Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist's (CDRS) assess driver skills, provide driver training, and recommend vehicle modifications for individuals with disabilities. A driver evaluation will be completed in order to recieve DATP services.
