There are many resources available for employers interested in hiring veterans, including job matching, training programs, tax credits and more. We have assembled a variety of resources here.
Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC)
Work Opportunity Tax Credit encourages employers to hire certain types of workers, including veterans from families currently or recently receiving public assistance or food stamps. If you qualify, your employer can apply to the Office of Employment and Training for this federal income tax credit.
Registered Apprenticeship Program
Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) is a proven model of apprenticeship that has been validated by the U.S. Department of Labor or a State Apprenticeship Agency. RAPs enable and energize more employers to [participate and provide them access to larger talent pools that have been trained for entry-level to management positions, thereby meeting industry demands and reducing unemployment rates across the country.
Hire VETS Medallion Program
Hire VETS Medallion Program Award is the only federal-level veterans’ employment award that recognizes a company or organization’s commitment to veteran hiring, retention, and professional development.
Kentucky’s employer job posting portal, Focus Talent, allows employers to post job openings and search for resumes.
Employers may upload an existing description or use the Focus Talent Job Post Wizard to build the job description with a skills-based questionnaire.
Unlike traditional job-match systems,
Focus Talent and
Focus Career cast a much wider net to find the skills a job requires. If you choose you will no longer receive job matches only for “the most qualified” candidates, but also for those candidates who possess some but not all of the skills you requested. Candidates are ranked from one to five stars based on how well they qualify for your job opening.

Employers with federal contracts
Employers who have contracts (or subcontracts) of $100,000 or more with the federal government are required to take affirmative action to hire and promote highly qualified veterans. These employers must list their
job openings with the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training so that qualified campaign veterans and special disabled veterans can receive priority referrals for those jobs. These employers must file an annual report with
Veterans Employment and Training Services (VETS) showing the number of campaign veterans and special disabled veterans in their workforces.
Hire Heroes USA
