Admissions

The Perkins Center is a division of the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR).  Our agency strives to assist Kentuckians with disabilities achieve suitable employment and independence.  The vast majority of referrals to the Perkins Center are made by OVR counselors located throughout Kentucky.  Rehabilitation counselors are specially trained professionals who understand disability issues and assist persons with disabilities to achieve the person's goals.  The counselor will make a referral to the Perkins Center if they feel the person could benefit from one or more services.  Because its purpose is to promote independence in work and daily living, the Perkins Center does not accept persons for treatment of acute disorders or long-term care. 

All referrals are sent to the Center's Admissions Office.  The OVR Counselor provides the Perkins Center with current information that will help the Perkins Center understand the needs of the person referred.  The Admissions Office reviews the information provided by the Counselor and makes a decision as to whether the facility has the services requested.

If the individual has received services from the Perkins Center in the past, that person may reapply. The admissions process for persons reapplying is the same as that for new consumers.

 

The Perkins Center admits new consumers almost every week. Intake for new students is typically conducted on Mondays.  The Admissions Office will contact persons scheduled to report for services by mail to inform them of a reporting date.
