Students will acquire skills and knowledge necessary for employment in the education field.  The course outline includes planning a safe and healthy learning environment, steps to advance children's physical and intellectual development, positive ways to support children's emotional development, strategies to establish positive ​and productive relationships with families, ensuring a well-run purposeful program, and maintaining a commitment to professionalism. Childcare Development Informational Flyer​

Admission Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is required.  A TB skin test and criminal background check must be completed on all students who enroll in the program.  Additional testing and/or situational assessments may be necessary to determine if the student will be enrolled in this program.  The student is informed of the process and provides written permission to conduct the background check/TB skin test.  Prolonged walking, standing, stooping, and bending are required.  Climbing, balancing, lifting, and carrying (50lbs frequently, 100lbs occasionally) may also be required.

Teachers Aide I (S.O.C.25-9041.00) 6 to 9 months-720 to 1080 hours
Teachers Aide II (S.O.C.25-9099) 4 to 6 months-480 to 720 hours
Child Attendant (S.O.C.39-9011.00) 4 to 6 months-480 to 720 hours
Nursery School Attendant (S.O.C.39.9011.00) 4 to 6 month-480 to 720 hours
Preschool Teacher (S.O.C.25-2011) 9 months-1080 hours

Growing Together Child Care Center  

The Carl D. Perkins Vocational Training Center operates the Growing Together Child Care Center as an integral part of the Child Care training program.  This daycare center serves as a hands-on training site for students and is located within the Carl D. Perkins Training Center facility.
 
The Growing Together Child Care Center is a fully licensed day care center that accepts children from ages one to five. The program serves individuals from surrounding communities as well as children of non-residential ("day") students attending the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Training Center. 
 

The Growing Together Child Care Center's hours of operation are:

Monday-Friday
7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
